STICKFAST 303 GENERAL PURPOSE POLYESTER GELCOAT
kerala

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Stickfast 303 is a standard thixotropic gelc at based on orthophthalate resin. It is suitable for hand application. Stickfast 303 has good flow properties and when cured it gives a film with good toughness and surface gloss.

TYPICAL PROPERTIES OF STICKFAST 303

Appearance   A white opaque Thixotropic liquid of uniform
Consistency and free from agglo merates.

Speicifiy gravity @ 25 °C   1.12 0.02
Volatile Content (Wt %)   35 2
Acid Value (mgs KOH/gm)   25 5
Shelf Life   About 6 months at 20 °C When stored in original sealed containers.

CURING CHARACTERISTICS

Stickfast 303 is cured by free radical initiating catalysis with suitable accelerators to promote rapid and complete curing

Typical gelation time at 25 °C for Stickfast 303 is as follows:

Stickfast 301   100 gms
Accelerator (3% Co)   1.5 ml.
Catalyst MEKP (50% Conc.)   1.5 ml.
Geltime (Minutes)   20 - 30

CAUTION : Accelerator should never be mixed with catalyst as this would cause explosion. The accelerator should b e blended into the resin first. The catalyst should be added just before use.

TYPICAL MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF
CURED UNREINFORCED RESIN
Tensile strength (Kg/cm2) 550 – 600
Flexural strength (Kg/cm2) 950 – 1050
Heat Distortion Temperature (0C) 70
Barcol Hardness 35 – 40
Volumetric shrinkage on curing 6 – 7%
Elongation at break (%) 1.8

(The specimens for testing are cured for 24 hours at Room temperature followed by Post Curing for 4 hours at 80 °C)

POST CURING REQUIREMENTS

Satisfactory laminates for many applications can be made by curing the laminate at ambient temperatures. However for achieving optimum properties the laminate should be post cured for a period of 4 hours at 80 °C. the Post curing is most effective when carried out immediately after the 24 hours ambient temperature cure.
