STICKFAST 311 ISOPHTHALIC POLYESTER RESIN
kerala

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Stickfast 311 is a medium viscosity unsaturated Polyester resin with Isophthalic acid as the chief polybasic acid constituent. This resin shows better mechanical electrical and thermal properties with improved chemical resistance as compared to general purpose orthophthalate polyester resin.

Stickfast 311 has been specifically designed to posses excellent wetting properties of glass fibres which are in the form of cloth, mat or chopped fibre and produced composite laminates or mouldings with superior mechanical, electrical and chemical resistance properties. These resins exhibit excellent resistance to most mineral and or ganic acids, solvents and oil etc. however resistance to oxidizing acids, strong acids, and alkalis is poor and therefore applications entailing use of these chemical should be avoided.

As such Stickfast 311 is recommended for the manufacture of glass reinforced chemical processing equipments storage tanks, road tankers, boats, containers, railway ragons, building panels, swimming pools, fume extraction system etc for use at ambient to moderately elevated temperatures.

CURING CHARACTERISTICS

Stickfast 311 is cured by free radical initialing catalysis with suitable accelerators to promote rapid curing. Typical gelation time at 25 °C for stickfast 311 is as follows:

Stickfast 311   100 gms
Accelerator (3% Co)   1.5 ml.
Catalyst MEKP (50% Conc.)   1.5 ml.
Geltime (Minutes)   25

CAUTION : Accelerator should never be mixed with catalyst as this would cause explosion. The accelerator should be blended into the resin first. The catalyst should be added just before use.

TYPICAL MECHANICAL PROERTIES OF CURED UNREINFORCED RESIN

Tensile strength (Kg/cm2) 640
Flexural strength (Kg/cm2) 1100
Heat Distortion Temperature (0C) 100 5
Barcol Hardness 40 – 45
Water Absorption Test(24 hours immersion) 0.15%

(The specimens for testing are curred for 24 hours at Room temperature followed by Post Curing for 4 hours at 80 °C)

POST CURING REQUIREMENTS

Satisfactory laminates for many applications can be made by curing the laminate at ambient temperatures. However for achieving optimum properties the laminate should be post cured for a period of 4 hours at 80 °C. the Post curing is most effective when carried out immediately after the 24 hours ambient temperature cure..
